Цукор повністю виключити шкідливо: науковці з’ясували неочікуваний наслідок

Recent research has called into question the commonly held belief about the unconditional benefits of completely eliminating sugar. A series of negative changes were observed in the bodies of mice that did not receive sucrose.

Reducing sugar intake has traditionally been linked to numerous health advantages, from lowering the risk of cavities to improving blood glucose control. However, a new study involving mice has shown that complete exclusion of sucrose from the diet may have unexpected consequences.

This was reported by Science Alert.

Researchers from the Dasman Diabetes Institute in Kuwait studied the effects of a low-fat diet with and without sucrose. The study involved 12 mice, who were observed for 16 weeks.

According to the study’s authors, changes in the composition of gut microbiota were recorded in animals that did not receive sucrose. At the end of the experiment, they were found to have fewer beneficial bacterial strains and more bacteria associated with inflammatory processes.

Furthermore, mice with zero sugar consumption exhibited impaired blood glucose control and signs of insulin resistance. Researchers also detected fat accumulation in the liver. Notably, the body weight of these animals remained roughly the same as in the group that received sucrose.

The study’s authors suggest that the complete exclusion of sucrose from a low-fat diet can negatively impact gut microbiota and metabolic health. In their opinion, the findings highlight the importance of maintaining balanced carbohydrate intake for preserving intestinal and immune homeostasis.

“The study’s results indicate that completely excluding sucrose from a low-calorie diet may adversely affect gut microbiota and metabolic health. The research emphasizes the significance of maintaining a balanced intake of carbohydrates to support intestinal and immune homeostasis,” stated immunologist Rashid Ahmad from the Dasman Diabetes Institute.

At the same time, scientists stress that the obtained conclusions should be interpreted with caution. The work was conducted on a small group of animals, and the results require further verification. Additionally, the study has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, so the details of the methodology remain limited.

Scientists believe that further research involving humans is necessary to confirm or refute these findings. Currently, the work points to the need for further investigation into the consequences of complete sugar abstinence on the body.

Recall that researchers previously established that consuming avocados can aid in controlling blood sugar levels, thanks to their high fiber content and minimal sugar.
